Philosophical thoughts during monopoly time....

So, Jordan and I got the newest "Here and Now" version of monopoly, which has Canadian spaces (mostly ontario, of course, but including the Calgary Stampede!!!!), "new age"-type playing pieces (a segway!, a cell phone, flat screen tv...), and CREDIT CARDS! instead of cash! Anyways, as fun as the little credit card machine is, it's a very busy job being the banker!!! Because you have to take 2 cards everytime there is a transaction and it just takes up all your playing time! Anyways, I was thinking about how true to life that is! We think that by using credit (and debit) cards (in life, but I thought this about monopoly) we will eliminate the hassle that we get with cash, but the "easy way" takes X amount more work than using cash does! Sure, in life there are other benefits to using plastic over cash, but I just thought it was interesting and indicative of how life really works. I know it's lame... who thinks about real life and stuff while they're playing monopoly? Still though, I enjoyed it. And thanksgiving was very good! I had turkey on Sunday and steak at Jordan's house tonight! On a scarier note, there was a shooting up the hill from me today (apparently, I was in woodbine at the time), and one of the guys involved went to beaverbrook and RT with us.... so that's weird and scary and such. Anyways, I gotta go, it's VERY late (almost midnight) and I have to leave in 6.5 hours with Nattie!!!! Hooray!!!!

Haha, I'm glad you updated. How sad that it is more of a hassle! Matt and I were talking about how he could actually be the banker now because he can't cheat, but maybe not. I totally agree with your philosophical thoughts whilst playing monopoly, the only problem is that people are so used to technology doing all the work for them that they can't do math on their own! Have you ever paid a 15 yo cashier in cash and then try to give them an extra 7 cents or something after they have punched the amount in to make your cash even? How painful it is. Sad too, very sad. Anyway, sory for that extra rant, and I'm sure you have had that experience and all!

Ha ha, yes I have DEFINITELY had that experience before!!! I just think it's so ironic that technology is supposed to be this amazing revolutionary thing that is meant to improve our lives and give us more time to spend with our families and friends by decreasing the amount of time we spend doing work. While it does that (saves time) and IS revolutionary... like when my group and I had a meeting on MSN to talk about our project.... it's sort of sad that there was a simpler time when we couldn't take our work home like we do now and we couldn't have cell phones and pagers and blackberries to keep us in contact with everyone all the time. I know I'm not coming up with this all on my own, but it really hit me yesterday! And yes, the change thing is bad! I have to admit, I'm not GREAT at giving change without a cash register but I can for sure do it! (even if it takes me a little extra time)....
